How strict is Iberia with carry-on size? ›

Iberia, the airline we're talking about, has strict guidelines for your carry-on bag. They say it can't be more significant than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (the handles, pockets, and wheels are included). So, before packing, grab a tape measure and ensure your bag fits these dimensions.

Small cabin baggage usually has the following dimensions: H45cm W36cm D20cm. This size would be suitable for airlines like Easyjet and Ryanair. Large cabin baggage usually have the following dimensions: H56cm W45cm D25cm. This would be suitable for airlines like British Airways and Jet2.

No bag should exceed 158 cm in length, including the handle, pocket and wheels. The maximum weight is 23 kg but you can check in up to 32 kg by paying a surcharge per kilo of excess weight or by paying for a 32 kg bag.

You can also take a personal accessory free of charge (maximum dimensions 40x30x15cm), such as a handbag, briefcase, camera, folding umbrella, etc. Sharp and/or blunt objects are considered to be dangerous goods.

Though you might find an inch or two of a difference with various airlines, the size limit for carry-on luggage is 22" x 14" x 9", which includes the handle and the wheels. A few domestic airlines, such as Frontier and Southwest, will allow 24-inch luggage as a carry-on.

Many international airlines don't have exact size restrictions for personal items. But the most common size limit is 40 inches (102cm) (length, plus width, plus height) or 18 x 14 x 8in (46 x 36 x 20cm).

You must adhere strictly to the baggage allowance on your booking. If your small bag or 10kg cabin bag does not fit in the baggage sizers, which are placed at every boarding gate, we will tag your bag and place it in the aircraft hold subject to payment of a gate bag fee.

According to airline policy, any personal items stowed beneath seats should not exceed 18 inches by 14 inches by 8 inches.

The combined dimensions of carry-on baggage should be less than 45 inches, with individual items measuring no more than 22 x 14 x 9 inches.

Travel light

We recommend you check in your free hand luggage and board with just a small bag or brief case only (not available on Iberia Regional Air Nostrum flights) to travel more comfortably.

How many inches is 55x40x23 cm carry-on luggage? ›

If you are travelling on an Iberia flight operated by Vueling and/or in transit between Iberia flights operated by Vueling, the free baggage allowance will be one piece of baggage weighing 25 kg. When the weight of the piece is more than 25 kg, every kilo over will be subject to a surcharge, up to a maximum of 32 kg.

In general, hand luggage consists of one item which may not exceed 56cm x 40cm x 25cm. The maximum weight is 10 kg in Economy and Premium Economy. In Business class, the maximum weight is 14 kg and 2 items are permitted on long-haul flights, except from US airports.

A personal item can be anything from a purse or tote to a backpack, duffel bag, or briefcase. As these items must fit underneath the seat in front of you, they are smaller, measuring no more than 18 x 14 x 8 inches. Sizes vary – so please check the baggage policy on your airline's website.

Carry-on Luggage Size Matters

Generally, most of the European airlines limit carry-on luggage to a maximum size of 55 x 40 x 20 cm ( 21.6 x 15.7 x 7.8 in); however, a few airlines do accept bags up to 25 cm wide (9.84 inc) or do not accept more than 35cm tall (13.7 in).

You can take one cabin bag and one personal accessory on board. Check that your hand luggage meets the measurements, weight and number of items allowed to be able to take it with you on the plane. If not, you must check it in at the check-in counters.

Maximum dimensions: For the cabin bag, the maximum dimensions are 55 x 40 x 23cm, and the personal items dimensions should be 25 x 33 x 20cm.
